SUMMARY:Cleaning up our Rivers\, Lakes & Seas – The Answers
DESCRIPTION:The Full Conference Information is now available here with all the presentations and resources\nThis event goes beyond analysing the problems to setting out what needs to happen now to clean up our nation’s rivers lakes and seas. Our testing of water quality at Ilkley is showing more than bacteria\, we are finding chemicals and other harmful materials in the untreated sewage going into our river from storm overflows. \nThis event is for those that care about the health and future of our rivers\, from local people to campaigners\, national lobby organisations\, regulators\, water service providers and policy makers who want to secure rivers\, lakes and seas fit for people and wildlife. We aim to keep pollution for profit firmly in the spotlight post the election\, providing participants with the opportunity to find out how the country can address the state of our rivers\, lakes and seas. \nThe hosts\, Ilkley Clean River Group\, are the first campaign group nationally to secure local infrastructure to radically reduce water company sewage pollution\, by holding regulators\, water companies and politicians to account using data\, public outrage\, policy\, and the media. They provide seminars and support to campaign groups across the country\, partnering with national organisations and philanthropic funders. \nDuring the day you can find out and contribute to: \n\nWhat really causes river pollution\, and how this differs across the country\nWhat is legal and illegal and how to hold water companies\, regulators and policy makers to account\nThe infrastructure solutions that will ensure sewage is not polluting our rivers and seas\nWhat local people\, national organisations and government can do to ensure our rivers are returned to good health fit for people and wildlife\n\n \nA free event hosted by Ilkley Clean River Group \nVENUE: Christchurch\, The Grove\, Ilkley \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:3RD TOWN MEETING (OUR FIRST SUCCESS)
DESCRIPTION:“Ilkley Town Meeting last night heard the welcome news from Yorkshire Water that rather than wait 5 years to investigate the solutions for Ilkley\, they will start this year and then move to implementation directly”. “We heard Richard Emmott\, Director of Corporate Affairs say”:- \n“It would be daft for us not to investigate”. “Rivers are changing and we need to respond.” “There is a will to get it done.” \nRichard said it would take a couple of weeks to firm up their position. The ICRG have written to Richard for a timeframe and clarity about what they will do. See the video from the meeting. \nIn the meantime Yorkshire Water have issued this statement:- “We continue to have positive discussions with the Ilkley Clean River Group and we will do all we can to accelerate the investigation process so we will know what future improvements may need to be made. In the meantime\, our surveys have identified three underground water courses which connect with the sewage network and we are monitoring the flow of these to see if diverting them would make a significant difference. If we can reduce the amount of surface water entering the sewage network this should mean that overflows will operate less frequently.”
